Wilson Street Workplace, South Yarra

Wilson Street was designed as a Melbourne corporate headquarters for a Singaporean shipping company. With the narrow site being only 5.5 meters wide, it was difficult to access and service. The design incorporated extensive hydraulic car-lift systems to comply with the owners’ onsite parking needs.

The building’s design is based around its exposed black concrete super structure. Staff and visitors are drawn up to the first level where office spaces are positioned above the street for an undisturbed working environment. The building’s design as well as meeting rooms and offices incorporated a large roof top terrace for entertaining guests and staff.

There are glass floors immediately behind the main window glazing throughout the levels to the roof so at certain times of the day the sun shines on the rear of the façade glazing system creating an illusion of a floating façade.

The project received an award from Stonington City Council for Best Commercial Development in 2004.
